Mont-Valérien est aussi un lien chargé d'histoire tragique de la seconde guerre mondiale. C'est près de la forteresse du Mont-Valérien que furent exécutés de nombreux otages et résistants. En 1962, le Général de Gaulle inaugura le mémorial de la France combattante à cet emplacement.
